AKFW is proud to support two incredible organizations that focus on children’s quality of life. These community organizations are Autism Speak and Hope of Africa.
Autism Speaks is a charity organization that, along with its predecessors,has been a critical source of funding directed towards the causes and treatments of autism spectrum disorders. It also conducts awareness and outreach activities aimed at families, governments, and the public. In a 2006 press release, Autism Speaks stated as its goal thusly: “to accelerate and fund biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for autism spectrum disorders; to increase awarenessfor the disorder; and to improve the quality of life of affected individuals and their families”. Hope of Africa is a 501(c)(3) charity organization with the vision of empowering women and children who have lost hope due to poverty, lack of education, and social injustice prevalent in the countries in whichthey find themselves, particular in the west coast of Africa. This organization supports women and children in west African countries such as in Sierra Leone by providing medical and educational supplies.
